Defense Team for Combs Appeals to Jury for Acquittal in Sex Trafficking Case
In a high-stakes courtroom drama, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ defense attorney urged jurors to acquit the iconic hip-hop figure in his ongoing sex trafficking trial, asserting that the charges stem from a dangerous attempt to criminalize his “unusual sexual preferences.” This poignant plea was made by attorney Marc Agnifilo during his closing statements in a Manhattan federal court.

Agnifilo argued passionately that the prosecution has presented what he deems a “fake trial,” using Mr. Combs’ personal life and sexual choices as a basis for a supposed criminal conspiracy linked to his business practices. “They take the baby oil and the Astroglide and make it the evidence in this case, because there’s nothing wrong with his businesses,” he stated, contending that the “crime scene” in question was Mr. Combs’ “private sex life.”
Facing a challenging legal landscape, Mr. Combs could face a minimum sentence of 15 years—and potentially life in prison—if convicted on all counts. The stakes are undeniably high.
In contrast, a federal prosecutor opened closing arguments yesterday, revealing a striking narrative. U.S. Attorney Christy Slavik claimed that Mr. Combs employed “violence and fear” to operate a criminal enterprise, ultimately subjecting two former girlfriends to sex trafficking. She asserted, “The defendant used power, violence, and fear to get what he wanted,” further emphasizing that Mr. Combs believed his fame, wealth, and influence placed him above the law.
Agnifilo did not shy away from addressing the complexities of Mr. Combs’ past relationships, acknowledging instances of violence. However, he argued that the sexual activities described by the prosecution were entirely “consensual,” dismissing the trafficking claims outright.
Throughout the past six weeks of testimony in Manhattan Federal Court, jurors heard from two former girlfriends who recounted experiences of drug-fueled parties, sometimes dubbed “freak offs.” These gatherings allegedly involved male sex workers while Mr. Combs observed, filmed, and participated in various capacities without taking the stand himself.
The jury viewed surveillance footage capturing Mr. Combs in a troubling interaction with one of the women and heard testimonies from his employees about facilitating these parties, including preparing hotel rooms and procuring drugs. As jurors gear up to begin deliberations—expected either later today or on Monday—a unanimous verdict will be required for a conviction.
In the words of Maya Angelou, “We may encounter many defeats but we must not be defeated.” The upcoming deliberations will certainly be pivotal in defining the future of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.
