Ryan Mason gives Harry Kane an update and insists he knows nothing about the Super League
Interim Tottenham head coach Ryan Mason has revealed that he is unsure whether striker Harry Kane is ready to face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
Kane limped away towards the end of Spurs’ 2-2 draw against Everton on Friday night, during which he scored two goals. That game also turned out to be Jose Mourinho’s last leader before he was sacked on Monday, a day largely dominated by the proposal for a Super League from some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
England captain Kane has a long history of ankle injuries, with the latest being his seventh since 2016, and so far the club has not given a prognosis.
Before Tottenham’s Premier League match with Southampton, Mason told the media: “I’m not sure right now. He did not train today [Tuesday], it is a case of taking it day by day. We are still not sure about the weekend yet.
“We know Harry is working extremely hard to overcome this injury.”

Tottenham are among the 12 teams that have promised their future to the new Super League. Reactions to the news have been generally negative, with critics saying it will hurt the modern game, but former England midfielder Mason said he has not had time to understand the proposals.
He added: “As you can probably imagine since about ten or 11 o’clock yesterday morning [Monday], my mind has been consumed with so many other things.
“I can not give an honest answer if I do not actually know what the situation consists of, so at the moment I am probably not the person to ask because I do not know enough about it. I do not know what fan reaction has been because my mind has been deep inside a laptop or on the training ground or trying to help the players in the classroom for the last 24 hours, so I know nothing about the situation. “
