Real Madrid transfer news: Varane offered new deal

Real Madrid are believed to have started talks with Raphael Varane about a new contract, but will still consider reasonable offers that come to the center – back when they look to finance a summer build-up.

Los Blancos have already lost a central midfielder with Sergio Ramos who will leave when his current deal expires. The 36-year-old will end 15 years at the Bernabeu after the club refused to meet his salary requirements or offer him a two-year deal.

The arrival of David Alaba from Bayern Munich will facilitate this battle, but it remains to be seen who will be there to work with the Austrian when he reports for training after the euro.

Varane’s contract will expire in 2022, and with the future of Ramos, Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez now resolved in one way or another, reports indicate that they have turned to him. The Times says that extending his deal has become one of their priorities, and they want to tie him to partner Alaba in the long run.

Reports in Spain, however, sing a slightly different tune. AS says that while the club continues with contract talks, they will remain on the fence with Varane and would consider all offers north of 60 million euros for his services.

Manchester United are one of the main challengers to sign Varane if he intends to leave, and they can take advantage of his reluctance to point out the offer that is currently on the table. Varane, now 28, is aware that the next contract he signs may be his last major contract, so wants a lucrative long-term deal.

Real have so far offered a two-year contract that does not exceed his requirements, while Varane’s salary requirements have also proved to be too steep for the Spanish champions.

They have not given up on finding a compromise, but in any case, the news that talks are under way is far from definitive proof that he will stay.
