Milan heartbreak as late goal denies Rossoneri in Pioli’s farewell showdown against Salernitana

Stefano Pioli failed to close his Milan chapter with a win, as Salernitana fought back on Saturday, denying them victory. Milan’s Serie A season wrapped up with a 3-3 draw against Salernitana, disappointing despite their strong start. The Rossoneri seemed destined for a win after Davide Calabria scored their third goal at the 77-minute mark at San Siro. The game went well for Milan when Rafael Leao put them ahead by taking advantage of a mistake from Salernitana goalkeeper Vincenzo Fiorillo. Olivier Giroud extended Milan’s lead by scoring from an Alessandro Florenzi corner five minutes later before joining Los Angeles FC. Although Salernitana managed to score through Simy in the second half, Calabria quickly restored Milan’s two-goal lead, hinting at a victory for Pioli in his final match. However, Junior Sambia and Simy scored two quick goals in the dying minutes to deprive Milan of a win. Giroud ended the season with 23 goal involvements, one of his best seasons in recent years. He is the oldest player with at least 23 goal involvements in the big five European leagues. Christian Pulisic provided an assist, becoming just the second Milan midfielder in 20 seasons to score 20+ goals in a single Serie A season, following Kaka’s footsteps.
