Brazilian Football Legend Marta Secures Olympic Squad Spot, Lauded as the ‘Greatest Athlete Ever’ by Elias

Marta is gearing up for her sixth Olympic stint after securing a spot on Brazil’s roster for the Paris Games, as announced by coach Arthur Elias. He hailed her as “the greatest athlete of all time.”

With a record-breaking 118 goals for the Selecao, the 38-year-old soccer maestro will bow out from international competition after this season, marking her swan song tournament.

Already an Olympic legend, Marta was the first to net goals in five consecutive Games. She clinched silver with her team in 2004 and 2008.

Coach Elias praised her recent inclusion, referencing her current success with Orlando Pride in the NWSL, where she’s knocked in four goals this season.

Elias expressed his admiration, noting, “She’s unparalleled in her contributions and rightly deserves her spot on the squad.”

“Marta sets a sterling example on and off the pitch and inspires her teammates immensely.”

Elias faces the tactical task of adapting the team’s play to leverage Marta’s strengths fully. “Victory demands a unified team effort,” he acknowledges.

Brazil’s quest for gold starts against Nigeria on July 25. They will also face off against Japan and the reigning 2023 World Cup champions, Spain, in Group C.
