the vaccination campaign against Covid-19

The Ivory Coast is still relatively spared from the Covid-19 pandemic. Officially, it has only 158 active people, and the positivity rate for PCR tests is below 3%, “one of the lowest prices in Africa” the government indicates. In total, the country has registered just over 48,000 cases of pollution and 313 deaths. The vaccination campaign is also on track and the country has placed new vaccine orders.

as reported from Abidjan, François Hume-Ferkatadji

At the vaccination center in the Treichville district of Abidjan, the largest in the country, the campaign continues. “Given this pandemic, I think it is very important for all Ivorians to come and be vaccinated, in their own and the country’s interest. Because the world must move forward ”.

“It’s a global problem, everyone has to get started so that this disease can be eradicated once and for all,” said Abidjan.

Slightly less than 3% of the population has been vaccinated, which is not much, but it is one of the few African countries that can possibly meet the target of one tenth of the vaccinated population by September.

Doctor Koné Abidou, responsible for monitoring events after vaccination, said he was “satisfied”. “It is true that the campaign had started in a modest way, but with the different strategies we have introduced, we have noticed that the number of vaccinated per day has increased extremely and the population has followed the vaccination against Covid-19 more and more. ”

After receiving half a million doses of Astra Zeneca Covishield vaccine, officially out of stock in mid-May, Côte d’Ivoire received a loan of 100,000 new doses from Niger at the end of the same month. In June, three new deliveries took place: 100,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine thanks to the Covax initiative, 100,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine, a donation from China and finally another loan from Mali this time, 100,000 doses. The total number of just over 300,000 doses.

To keep pace, the country has ordered AstraZenaca for one million doses of its serum. Delivery is expected during the month of July.

According to government figures, 757,123 people have already been vaccinated, of which 76,603 have received two doses of vaccines, mainly health care workers, law enforcement and teachers.
