The UFDG maintains pressure on the streets to challenge the presidential election

In Guinea, the unsuccessful candidates for the presidential election on October 18, in the first round of outgoing President Alpha Condé, won, according to the preliminary results of Ceni, until Sunday night to lodge their appeal to the Constitutional Court. The institution was to rule before the end of the week by announcing the final results or canceling the vote. Until then, the UFDG, the largest opposition party, keeps the pressure on the streets.

as reported from Conakry, Carol Valade

If ten of the twelve presidential candidates dispute the results, they are only four who have filed their appeal on time to the Constitutional Court.

The UFDG, the main opposition party, calls in a thick document for the invalidation of the vote in the Kankan region, which is considered the stronghold of power. The party, which supports protocols, condemns several irregularities in centralization and voting operations. The candidates for PADES, NGR and PACT would request the cancellation of the vote, according to a source at the Constitutional Court.

Tension climate

The other parties have 48 hours to submit their observations to the Court. The institution must then make a decision within the following three days in accordance with the Election Act. The verdict is therefore expected before Friday.

The UFDG, which has no hope in the Constitutional Court, is holding the pressure on the streets with a new call for demonstration on Tuesday. A strategy that four other unfortunate candidates disapprove of, none of which exceeded 0.5%, and which made it known at a press conference on Monday.

Signs of the climate of tension, the government and the UFDG accuse each other of preparing attacks against companies.
