The Senegalese M2D circulation is taking inventory of its

The Movement for the Defense of Democracy (M2D) took stock of its demands on Friday 26 March. Following deadly protests in Senegal, the movement suspended its call for mobilization on March 12, but presented “in return” a list of ten demands.

At the top of the list, M2D demanded the “unconditional” release of all prisoners marked “political” arrested in connection with the Ousmane Sonko affair.

This demand has been partially met. On Friday, March 26, 19 people were released, after a series of releases since Wednesday, including that of Guy Marius Sagna, one of the figures from the protest and coordinator of the Frapp / France Degage movement. M2D “notes” but remains mobilized.

Yassine Fall, a representative of the collective, recalls: “In Diourbel, the judge refuses to release the 22 political hostages. M2D will not compromise on the release of arbitrarily imprisoned young people. ”

M2D still demands the light on the deaths – at least 10 – and injuries recorded during the demonstrations and on the thugs, the accomplices, visible next to the police.

Call to maintain local elections 2021

The movement is also worried about new postponement of local elections, scheduled for the end of March, but postponed again. This postponement was registered this week in the Council of Ministers.

“M2D condemns all the maneuvers involved in bringing the election to next year and urges the actors involved in the election process to carry out the case and the evaluation to maintain the 2021 election,” explains Yassine Fall.

The movement adds that there will be no new call for the demonstration but a mobilization for a fundraiser for the victims of the latest violence. M2D stuck to this statement.
