the opposition is worried about its arrested officials

Political tensions are rising in Côte d’Ivoire, a week after a controversial presidential election in which incumbent President Alassane Ouattara won with 94.27% of the vote, according to the CEI.

Accused of riots and “terrorist acts”, several opposition leaders are wanted or arrested.

Maurice Guikahué, number 2 in the PDCI, now sleeps at MACA. According to the Democratic Party, he was detained in the large prison in Abidjan on Friday along with five other party figures, including Senators Seri Bi N’Guessan and Bassy Koffi Bernard, as well as the chief of staff of Henri Konan Bédié. , Narcisse N’dri.

Former Prime Minister and President of FPI-Legal, Pascal Affi N’Guessan, was arrested on Friday night, but since then he has not been found, according to his lawyers who want to secure his defense and ask about his physical and mental condition.

In a statement published late on Sunday night, the Ministry of Security declared that he was “feeling well” without specifying his place of detention. A police source says he is in a “safe place” that cannot be revealed for security reasons.

Sixteen counts

All these personalities, like the former Minister Abdallah Mabri Toikeusse, are still “on the run”, pursued by justice Ivorian on 16 charges, including “conspiracy and attack on state authority”. Following the vote, they refused to recognize the re-election of Alassane Ouattara, which they consider to be unconstitutional.

In a statement, the PDCI called for their release and also condemned “punitive expeditions” against the militants and the “police” occupation of the party’s headquarters located in the Cocody district of Abidjan.

We’re extremely worried, because we have not been able to see Pascal Affi N’Guessan in 48 hours, we do not know what condition he is. Neither his lawyers, his doctors nor his family have access to him. That is unacceptable. This is a violation of Côte d’Ivoire’s international human rights.
