Radio Omega was suspended for five days by CSC

In Burkina Faso, the radio and television antenna Radio Oméga was interrupted for five days by the Superior Council of Communication. According to CSC’s press release, this decision is motivated by a serious failure in the processing of information about the attack by Solhan and by the psychosis that this created in the population.

June 5, the day after Solhan’s attack in the eastern part of the country, it’s the confusion that prevails in the province of Yagha. Rumors, which will be verified later, about the attackers’ return to the site of the massacre are circulating, but other rumors, together with pictures, provoke an attack on a bus on the Sebba-Dori axis. Several media outlets, including Radio Omega, have since reported 47 deaths in this alleged new tragedy.

A few hours later, a press release from the Armed Forces General Staff denied this information, and no source has really come to show the accuracy of this attack.

On June 6, Radio Omega announced that it was differing from its editor-in-chief after this error, but the CSC decided to hear the radio director Ouezzin Louis Oulon and to suspend the radio, which is owned by the current minister of Burkinabé of Affairs. foreign Alpha Barry, until June 13.

A decision that the radio director does not understand. “They respect the republic and we carry out all actions that affect us. But we say that it is disproportionate, offensive and one-sided. And in the history of Burkina Faso, this is the first time such an action has been taken against the media. It is a kind of pressure in the press and we come to a situation where we have to practice this profession. if it is not already, ”laments Ouezzin Louis Oulon.

The director of Radio Omega also claims that the national radio broadcasts the same information without being sanctioned. Contacted, the government did not want to react and CSC has not yet responded to our requests.
