His face is everywhere on social networks and in the Ivorian press. Nawa Fofana, 44, known for her activism in favor of the ruling party, was arrested on Thursday, May 20, following calls for violence and murder, the National Police Directorate explains.
The cyber activist was accused of a video in which she is heard calling passers-by and forcing them to attack the Hausa community. This video repeated another, falsely presented, showing that Ivorians are being abused by Nigerians in the Sahelian country. A fake news that provoked the violence last Wednesday in several municipalities of Abidjan and some cities in the land. Result: one dead and many injured.
The day after his arrest, Nawa Fofana was presented to the judge for immediate appearance. For passing on this false information, she was sentenced to five years in prison and fined two million CFA francs, the heaviest sentence in Article 62 of the law on the fight against cybercrime.
