South Africa mourns the sudden loss of two promising athletes as tributes flood in for Jayden Adams and Luqobo Makwedini following their untimely deaths.
Adams, a former Mamelodi Sundowns player and Bafana Bafana international, was discovered dead at his Cape Town residence. He had recently made his FIFA World Cup debut as South Africa advanced to the round of 32 at the ongoing 2026 tournament. Makwedini died in France after a training session; the young defender had represented his country at Under-18 level and was in his second year with the AS Béziers Hérault academy.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has publicly offered his condolences to the families of both athletes as the nation reflects on their contributions to South African sport.
