Paul Rusesabagina’s family is filing a complaint against an airline
Paul Rusesabagina and his family are filing a complaint against the Greek private jet company GainJet Aviation. They accuse him of being an accomplice in what they consider to be a kidnapping of the Rwandan opponent of Paul Kagame’s government.
The complaint was filed on Monday, December 14, in a court in Texas, where Paul Rusesabagina is permanently resident.
The complaint involves GainJet, but also a pastor, Constantin Niyomwungere, accused of being an agent of the Rwandan government. He reportedly urged Paul Rusesabagina to come and talk about the issue of human rights in churches in Burundi, while GainJet reportedly was paid by the Rwandan government to take him to Kigali instead.
Lawyers from the Rusesabagina family claims to have evidence, without, however, giving many details. In any case, they claim that GainJet failed in its legal obligation to ensure the safety of passengers.
With this complaint, they hope to shed light on the still unclear circumstances in the arrest of Paul Rusesabagina, and above all, put pressure on the international community to demand the release of the opponent.
This approach has not led to an official reaction from GainJet or the Rwandan government. But in a letter to a member of the US Congress and published on Thursday, December 17, the Attorney General assures that Paul Rusesabagina was neither kidnapped nor extradited, and recalls that he has publicly shown his support for a group considered a terrorist by Kigali.
