The aim is to normalize diplomatic relations. But also to re-establish air connections between Cairo and Tripoli and launch cooperation projects, in particular security. In short, the purpose of the Egyptian delegation’s visit to Tripoli is to restore normal relations between Libya and Egypt, which had been severed in 2014.

But despite verbal hostility, the ceasefire achieved under the auspices of the UN always respected. And besides, the Sunday meeting was meant to support it more, according to the Libyan Interior Minister.
An Egyptian embassy in Tripoli could therefore be reopened “as soon as possible”, according to Cairo, six years after its closure.
