Somaliland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Cisse Keyd Mahmoud, in an interview with a German newspaper, confirmed that the agreement reached between Somaliland and Ethiopia will be completed in the next two months.

“We are on track to conclude the historic agreement that will see Ethiopia lease 20 kilometers of its coastline to Somaliland, further solidifying Ethiopia’s recognition of Somaliland’s sovereignty,” stated the report by the German newspaper.

The Minister, speaking to Deutsche Welle in Germany, emphasized that negotiations between the two nations are progressing well, with committees working on implementing the agreement reached by President Muse Bihi and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

Somalia strongly opposed the understanding between Somaliland and Ethiopia, with Ethiopia warned not to engage in any deal that undermines Somalia’s federal government’s consent.
