Somalia’s foreign minister meets with his Egyptian counterpart in Cairo

CAIRO – Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a senior delegation from Somalia on Monday as part of their current visit to Cairo.

The Somali delegation included the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mohamed Abdirizak and Hassan Moallem Khalif, the Prime Minister of the Presidency of the Somali Republic.

Ahmed Hafez, spokesman for Egypt’s Foreign Ministry, said the meeting dealt with efforts to develop bilateral cooperation between the two countries in different areas in a way that meets their common interests.

The meeting addressed the Egyptian affirmation of interest in achieving peace and stability in fraternal Somalia.

In this regard, Egypt called on all Somali parties to continue the dialogue in order to work for free and fair elections at a time agreed upon by the Somalis themselves.

Hafez added that the meeting also touched on various developments in the Horn of Africa, taking into account the strategic importance of this region and its vital link with Egyptian interests,

He pointed out that Egypt is eager to follow up on this development in order to support all efforts to strengthen stability in the Horn of Africa. This must be done in a way that improves regional and continental peace and security.
