new source of Covid-19 contamination at the University of Diego-Suarez

University of Diego-Suarez, in the far north of the country, a new source of Covid-19 contamination. For several months, the Big Island has had few new cases and the state of health was lifted in mid-October. But in a few days, 83 cases were identified in the capital of the Diana region. A situation that raises concerns that the virus will re-emerge.

From our correspondent in Antananarivo,

61 students from the university’s campus have tested positive, according to the president of the student association in the Sofia region, Jean Mahazava Randriarimanana. “Most of the university’s polluted come from our region. They share a dormitory where they are about 60. This was where the first case was and that the transfer started, he said. “The bedrooms and classrooms are very cramped, which is why the virus is spreading fast,” he continues.

Classes are maintained despite the source of contamination

While the suspension of lessons for 15 days and the confinement of the university had been mentioned by the governor of the region, the lessons were not interrupted in the end. “Many people in college do not take this spread of Covid-19 seriously. Some do not even believe it, because the lessons continue and most students who test positive are healthy carriers. They are not afraid and do not even wear a mask anymore. They do not really know what coronavirus is. Others do not want to be tested because they do not want to miss the lessons if they are positive, the association’s president explains.

Contacted, the city prefect indicates that all students with Covid-19 have been taken to hospital. Local authorities have planned raids on campus to educate students about respecting barrier gestures.

“If we fail to contain this spread, there could be a second wave of coronavirus in the region,” warned Governor Daodo Arona Marisiky in a statement. “We can return to containment, which we do not want,” he said. Members of the security forces will be deployed in the city to implement health measures.
