Freshly appointed UN ambassador holds a summit with President Mohamud and Premier Barre

In Mogadishu, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre separately met with UN envoy James Christopher Swan. President Mohamud and Swan discussed deepening collaboration between the Federal Government of Somalia and the United Nations, particularly in the realms of aid, peace, and security.

President Hassan Sheikh shared with Ambassador James Swan the government’s endeavors in combating terrorism, fostering economic growth, and advancing the overall progress of the nation. He expressed hopes for Swan’s effective execution of his new responsibilities, as per a statement from the Somali Presidency.

James Swan, the Acting Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia and the Head of UNSOM, arrived in Mogadishu on Sunday to bolster efforts towards stabilization. Swan’s visit follows Somalia’s formal request for the UN to end UNSOM’s mandate in the country, after a thorough review of its strategic goals.
