Christians may have fun Easter despite

Inside the Reformed Church in the district of Mahamasina, in the center of the capital, a few dozen Tananarivians participate in the service in masks. Bottles of water alcohol and tape to force spacing were installed on the benches.

Fenohery Randriamanampisoa is the parish treasurer. “The faith of the Church is based on Jesus Christ, who is already alive. So we as Christians have the belief that we are not “afraid” of anything related to the coronavirus. But of course we respect barrier gestures as human beings and that is what we try to convey to the believers. For vulnerable people, old or sick, we try to ask them to stay at home. So everything that is praised or the whole worship, we share them on social networks. “

“Levirus is everywhere now”

The celebration went without adoration last year due to the first wave of Covid-19. Nirina, 30, did not want to miss it this year. And this while the Big Island is undergoing a second wave stronger and more deadly than the first, with 117 deaths in the last 20 days, for a total of 25,572 cases including 454 deaths.

“Every year we get God’s message in the church for Easter, but that year it was not as usual and we compensate for it this year,” says Nirina. We use it when we have the opportunity to come to church. We are not afraid of the virus here with this organization. But in everyday life we ​​are still scared, because the virus is everywhere now. ”

As in other places of worship in Antananarivo, worship services in this church have increased and began early in the morning to allow about 900 of the 3,000 believers they must attend the Passover celebration.
