At the least 18 militants killed in southern Somalia
MOGADISHU, Somalia – At the least 18 al-Shabab extremists have been killed Monday in a safety operation by the Somali Nationwide Military (SNA) on the outskirts of the city of Barire within the southern area of Decrease Shabelle, a army official stated on Tuesday.
Ahmed Hassan Ziyad, commander of the 143rd unit of the SNA, advised reporters that the military was conducting an operation within the village of Nun Garay after intelligence of the militants’ presence within the space.
“The militants have been injured in a fierce confrontation with our forces. We killed 18 of them, “stated Ziyad.
He added that these killed within the fierce battle included Sidow Nurre Abu Muhsin, the militants’ operational commander within the Decrease Shabelle area.
In current months, authorities forces have intensified operations towards al-Shabab extremists in central and southern areas, the place militants conceal in rural areas, ambush and plant landmines.
