Several ISIS militants killed in Northeastern State after clashes with security forces

BOSSASO, Northeastern State – Security forces withdrawn from Northeastern State on Saturday killed several IS-Somalia militants in the northern state, where the group has tried to create a base but with their attempts to flop due to vigilance exhibited by Northeastern State Security Forces.

Security forces, officials said, clashed with militants in the mountainous region of the Balidhidin district of Bari, a region often threatened by IS-Somalia militants, the number of which cannot be told given the secrecy in which they operate.

According to officials, Northeastern State Security Forces [PSF] raided group hides following a hint of a planned attack. Troops sent as reinforcements came under IED on their way to the area, but they managed to thwart the militants’ attempts to attack certain areas of the region.

The fighting, according to reports, took place on Cal-Miskaad. Heavy weapons were used, but no casualties were reported as forces tried to stamp out authority in the region, which is prone to attacks by both IS militants and the Al-Shabaab group, which subscribes to al-Qaeda ideologies.

Northeastern State is one of the regions least attacked by both militant Al-Shabaab and IS-Somalia due to robust security measures taken by the regional leadership. There are few activities of the Somali National Army in the region.

Annually, regional security forces upgrade before deployment to the regular forces, a move that has the blessings of Regional Leader Said Abdullahi Deni, the sixth president of the region, formed in 1998.

IS-Somalia militants are often seen on the Goli Mountains in Northeastern State, and their activities are limited to Bosaso, Northeastern State’s commercial capital. The group often clashes with Al-Shabaab, making the fight against the Islamist militants easier.
