The committee responsible for appointing future members of the National Transition Council (CNT) was established by decree on 13 June 2021. The CNT will serve as Parliament for the remaining 16 months of the transition. The members will be responsible in particular for the drafting of the new constitution.

The chairmanship of this committee goes to General Djimadoum Tiraina, faithful among the faithful by Idriss Déby Itno, who is also the Vice-Chairman of the Transitional Military Council.

At his side, two Vice-Presidents: Mahamat Allahou Tahir, President of the Demonstration and Progress, and Jean-Bernard Padaré, Member of the MPS Board.

Six personalities are also included in this committee, among them former MPS caciques, such as Djimtebaye Lapia but also the opponent Célestin Topona, number two in UNDR, Saleh Kebzabo’s party.

The establishment of this committee marks a new step in the transition and will be responsible for appointing the 93 members of the National Transition Council. All must be at least 25 years old according to a decree signed at the end of May and come from all walks of life.
