death penalty is required against two defendants

General Delphin Kahimbi, head of military intelligence, was found dead in his home in late February 2020 in the city of Kinshasa. This accusation is disputed by defense lawyers for whom the prosecution has remained speculated and not in fact.

For the indictment, Brenda Nkoy Okale and Scholastique Mondo Pila, widow and mother-in-law of General Delphin Kahimbi, are both responsible for the murder of the official. Thus, Ange Ntoto, a magistrate at the High Court in Gombe, sought the death penalty against the two ladies.

They remained untouched throughout the reading of this accusation. The four other defendants, a woman, two pastors and a nephew of the widow Kahimbi, are accused of complicity, and the prosecutor asked for punishment from 20 to 10 years in prison.

But this accusation did not convince the defense lawyers, like me Peter Ngomo Milambo: “It is as if the prosecutor did not want to give himself the means to be able to defend his case well, for how to understand that we are appealing to one thing without being able to analyze the evidence. “For example, there was a medical expertise that was performed, there were reports from the police and researchers who were on site. You have telephone records. So there are many things that were not discussed.”

The court promised a verdict in this trial of the assassination of General Kahimbi in a deliberation to be given in fifteen days.
