The Congolese opposition has been very quiet since the presidential election it lost in March last year. The Action Committee for Renewal (CAR) came out of the woods on Wednesday, July 7th. Its president has asked some 20 groups, and even free voters, to set up a framework for reflection on the revision of the opposition, one year from elections to legislation and local group 2022.

In the face of the press, Clotaire Mboussa-Ellah, chair of the renewal action committee, felt that the opposition needed to make an effort to overcome “its inaction”. This is how he proposes a regrouping of all his formations around the same goal, considering the election deadlines next year.

“We believe the opposition needs to be rebuilt,” said Clotaire Mboussa-Ellah. I want a framework for reflection that will analyze all situations so that we can leave a strong and responsible opposition before the 2022 election. People have become accustomed to asserting resistance, but in practice it is not behavior. ”

Inclusive dialogue

Very close to Pascal Tsaty-Mabiala, leader of the opposition, leader of the CAR, also requested a review of the law and of the Electoral Commission for peaceful elections.

Contacted, Clément Miérassa from the Congolese Social Democratic Party (PSDC) did not want to comment on this call to the meeting. However, he confirmed that, given the political situation, the actors must create the conditions for relaxation which, among other things, requires the organization of an inclusive dialogue.
