Pakistan army chief, Somali defence minister discuss closer security cooperation
ISLAMABAD, Aug. 6 – Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, held talks with Somali Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi on Thursday, as the two countries explored ways to broaden defence cooperation and address regional security concerns, Pakistan’s military said.
Fiqi, heading a Somali delegation on an official visit, met Munir at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, according to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The discussions covered matters of mutual interest, developments affecting regional security and measures to reinforce bilateral defence ties. Particular attention was given to military-to-military engagement and capacity-building initiatives aimed at tackling common security challenges.
Fiqi expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s continued support for Somalia and commended the professionalism of the Pakistani armed forces in advancing peace and stability across the region, the statement said.
Munir reiterated Pakistan’s pledge to help Somalia strengthen its security institutions and pursue lasting peace and stability in the Horn of Africa, according to the military statement.
