The death toll from last month’s catastrophic twin earthquakes in Venezuela has climbed beyond 4,800 as rescuers continue searching through the ruins.
The magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 quakes struck just one minute apart on 24 June, laying waste to parts of the coastal state of La Guaira, north of Caracas.
At least 4,829 people were killed in the disaster, according to an updated toll posted on Telegram by National Assembly chief Jorge Rodriguez.

Three weeks after the earthquakes, rescue crews and relatives in La Guaira are pressing on with efforts to find victims trapped beneath collapsed buildings.
The powerful tremors also injured 16,740 people. Mr Rodriguez previously said that most of those hurt had already been discharged.
