The government has extended its condolences to the families and communities grappling with the aftermath of severe flooding in Accra and surrounding regions. Reports indicate that the tragic toll has exceeded 12 fatalities. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, the Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources, highlighted that while climate change plays a significant role in intensifying rainfall patterns, human actions—such as construction on floodplains, improper waste disposal in drainage systems, and disregarding zoning regulations—have markedly exacerbated these challenges.
Accompanying President John Dramani Mahama in evaluating the damage, Adjei emphasized that a prolonged stretch of heavy rainfall has particularly devastated low-lying areas, compounding the hardships faced by those communities.
