Hirshabelle minister says four killed in Jalalaqsi clan clash

Jowhar (AX) — A deadly clan-linked clash in Jalalaqsi district of Hiraan region left at least four people dead after a dispute between two families spiraled into violence, Hirshabelle’s interior minister said Friday.

Abdirahman Dahir Guure, the interior minister for Hirshabelle, told reporters that security forces and local authorities were racing to contain the unrest and bring the situation under control.

“They are two families living in the area, and the dispute started over a matter related to young men and women,” Guure said. “It was appropriate to take legal action in this matter, but the situation has worsened.”

He said officials and security personnel had already managed to mediate between the rival sides.

Guure added that two houses were torched during the fighting, though the flames were put out and people believed to have been involved in the attack were arrested.

He strongly condemned the burning of homes and the spread of violent footage on social media, describing such behavior as inconsistent with Somali social values.

The minister urged traditional elders, religious scholars, young people and local intellectuals to join efforts to ease tensions and back peace initiatives.

Guure said the Hirshabelle administration and the Federal Government of Somalia would pursue legal action against anyone found to be inciting violence or undermining the reconciliation process.
