Ruto applauded Mohamud on Somalia’s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2025–2026.

“Somalia, positioned to influence global peace dialogues significantly during crucial governance reforms,” a joint statement proclaimed.

Ruto reiterated Somalia’s vital role in guiding the global peace and security discussions during significant governance changes.

In a combined statement, both Heads of State highlighted the vital need for ongoing and honest conversations on shared interests that foster mutual understanding between the neighboring countries.

Mohamud praised Ruto for his unwavering support in Somalia’s state-building endeavors and his crucial role in enhancing peace and stability there.

He also acknowledged the paramount contribution of the Kenya Defence Forces, working with Somali Security Forces and other ATMIS allies in combating terrorism.

“Acknowledging the African Union’s new Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), the leaders applauded its groundwork built upon ATMIS,” the statement noted.

They highlighted the need for a seamless transfer of security duties from ATMIS to AUSSOM, set for January 1, 2025.

“Ensuring adequate resources for AUSSOM, the leaders urged consideration of varied funding sources, including UN Resolution 2719,” it noted.

Additionally, the leaders vowed to dismantle barriers for freer market exchanges, boosting the movement of goods and services between the nations, seizing regional trade prospects.
