MOGADISHU, Somalia – The reality of holding elections in Somalia continues to gather momentum after some hiccups that were necessary from a dead end that was accused of Villa Somalia but which has since been fixed after the signing of the agreement before the election.

Last week, leaders of the federal government and federal states signed the agreement and ended the months of suspension, which was marked by accusations and counter-accusations. The management signed the deal in the presence of the international community.

And on Tuesday, Jubaland left the names of members of the election committee and those who will sit on the appeals committee and end months of waiting. The state had refused to submit the names before they signed the election agreement.

Kismayo had raised issues related to the composition of the Electoral Commission at the federal level before questioning the arrangement in the Gedo region. There were controversies over how elections should be held in the Gedo region of Jubaland.

“The President of Somalia’s Jubbaland State, Ahmed Madobe, has subordinated to the Prime Minister’s Office members from Jubbaland who will be part of the Federal Government’s Election and Dispute Resolution Commissions,” state media reported.

Ahmed Madobe signed the election agreement after months of sticking to the federal government’s plans to stick to Jubaland by stationing troops in the region. Most of the soldiers in Gedo had been recalled to Mogadishu in April when some SNA soldiers organized a mutiny.

The opposition team has already submitted the names of 67 people on the election committee who are believed to be NISA agents, officials or President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo’s sycophants. The names were handed over to the Committee of Ministers on Tuesday.

“The committee appointed by Prime Minister Rooble to investigate the complaints against the members of the Election Commission today issued the list of 67 people. Members of the Union of Presidential Candidates including former presidents handed over this list on Monday to the PM,” the state media added.

The union of Somali presidential candidates met on Tuesday night at the Elite Hotel in Mogadishu when the government announced the list of 67 candidates expected to be replaced, according to the election agreement. The opposition team compiled evidence that involved the team.

Somalia is expected to go to the polls in the next two months based on the agreement and thus the ongoing final efforts to streamline all operations. The AMISOM group is expected to provide security during the election, which may begin in the coming weeks.
