Henri Konan Bédié announces the end of CNT and calls for a national dialogue

Henri Konan Bédié received Wednesday’s opposition parties and platforms. Almost a month after the Ouattara-Bédié meeting at the Hotel du Golf in Abidjan, intended to lower political tensions, the opposition calls for another format of discussions: a national dialogue that brings together the nation’s forces.

as reported from Abidjan, Pierre Pinto

Henri Konan Bédié intends to take the next step by inviting the rest of the opposition as well as the living forces and “credible” facilitators to the dialogue table.

“This new framework for dialogue will see the participation of all active forces in the nation and will be overseen by credible international organizations specializing in the matter, including the UN, or simply by independent personalities elected from among us. This framework apparently replaces the Transitional National Council (CNT) originally proposed by the Ivorian opposition. ”

I propose now and as soon as possible, in agreement with the whole opposition, to organize a national dialogue instead of Bédié-Ouattara tête-à-tête.

The opposition therefore buries CNT, but retains most of its demands. It even adds a major, namely the development of a new “consent” constitution. Also buried civil disobedience. “The fight will in future benefit the marches and other democratic forms of protest specific to a responsible and constructive opposition,” Henri Konan Bédié explained.

“I invite every Ivorian in every village, in every city, to a great march for dialogue and peace, the date of which will be determined in the coming days. To this end, I urge the Republican forces to peacefully shape this great march. ”

The opposition dean also sets as a condition for the national dialogue immediate release of those arrested in recent months.
