Somalia’s President Declares a Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as Its Capital Is the Path to Resolution
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud declared that the ongoing Middle East turmoil between Israel and Palestine has a potential resolution through the United Nations’ acceptance of the two-state solution. He presented this as the prime strategy to resolve the regional humanitarian issues.
He proposed that establishing a Palestinian state could address numerous concerns such as the relentless conflict responsible for countless civilian casualties. The Israeli military has been actively targeting Palestinian zones in a bid to combat Hamas and Hezbollah militants.
President Mohamud voiced his opinion while presenting a keynote speech during the Extraordinary Summit of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Riyadh. He noted that populations in Lebanon and Palestine are enduring hardships because of the ongoing hostilities.
He pointed out that the Gaza conflict transcends mere politics, tapping into the very essence of human rights and dignity. The violence has not only ended lives but has also annihilated properties, affecting both civilians and security personnel alike.
“A Palestinian state, with its 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as the capital, stands as the sole pathway to Middle Eastern peace,” asserted President Mohamud.
He urged global powers to step in and extinguish the ongoing war, which has persisted for over two years, marked by brutal assaults on Israeli civilians, including children and women, at the hands of militia connected to the Palestinian cause.
Amidst its own domestic turmoil, Somalia has nonetheless been an ardent advocate for global peace, persistently urging an end to hostilities in Gaza, Sudan, and other volatile regions. Somalia has made notable strides in curbing the influence of Al-Shabaab within its borders.
