The talks focused on expanding trade and investment cooperation, as the visitors were in the capital to attend a Somalia-Italy business and investment cooperation forum. The Italian ambassador to Somalia also joined the meeting.

The delegation brought together executives from major companies, industrial firms and investors looking into new business prospects in Somalia.

Mohamud welcomed the group and said Somalia is moving ahead on security, economic recovery and efforts to build a more attractive climate for international investment.

“I encouraged the investors to take advantage of the country’s growing opportunities, particularly in infrastructure, energy, fisheries, agriculture, manufacturing, and social services,” Mohamud said.

The president added that the federal government is determined to foster a business-friendly environment and to strengthen economic partnerships that can drive sustainable development and create jobs.

Italian business leaders and investors thanked Mohamud for the reception and said they wanted to explore trade and investment opportunities in Somalia.

Officials said they pointed to Somalia’s expanding markets and ongoing development initiatives as areas of particular interest.

The meeting comes as Somalia works to draw foreign investment into key sectors and broaden its economic relationships with international partners.
