Northeastern State’s Information Minister Questions President Mohamud’s Preparation for the 2026 Elections

Garowe (AX) – On Tuesday, Northeastern State’s Information Minister, Engineer Mohamud Aydid Dirir, leveled accusations against Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, claiming he has dropped the ball on prepping for Somalia’s 2026 elections.

From Garowe, Dirir took a swing at the National Consultative Council (NCC) gathering, suggesting it’s all smoke and mirrors to let President Hassan Sheikh angle for a term extension.

“Hassan’s autocratic ways have met their match,” Dirir declared. “He’ll get the boot from Villa Somalia just like Mohamed was shown the door in 2021.”

Dirir cautioned that the President’s power grab might send the nation spiraling into chaos, with a potential constitutional dust-up looming as 2026 draws near.

In the thick of it, Somali Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre assured folks that the NCC powwow in Mogadishu trudges on, even though Jubbaland’s top dog, Ahmed Madobe, pulled a Houdini and headed back to Kismayo.

Prime Minister Barre reiterated that dialogues among federal and regional bigwigs continue with gusto, promising that any concrete decisions will see the light of day post-discussions. Madobe has steadfastly maintained that without Northeastern State and Khatumo in the loop, the legitimacy of the looming elections hangs in the balance.
