Northeastern State Minister Opposes Shared Control in Bosaso Amid PSF and PMPF Tensions

The situation took a dramatic turn this week when the Northeastern State Security Forces (PSF) slapped a security lockdown on Bosaso Airport, halting flights and urging civilians to clear the premises. The PSF accused the current airport managers of blocking their injured soldiers from getting medical evacuation to Mogadishu. “We must respect the authority of governance,” stated Dirir on Sunday. “Northeastern State is entitled to oversee Bosaso and the entirety of Northeastern State. Anyone with issues should seek legal recourse.”

In a stern notice, the PSF warned airlines to avoid Bosaso Airport until it was returned to its former administration. They argued that the airport must be open to all Northeastern State residents, not just selective groups.

The clash between the PSF and the Northeastern State Maritime Police Force (PMPF) in Bosaso highlights an underlying power struggle within Northeastern State’s security framework. The PSF, a U.S.-funded faction controlled by the Osman Diyaano family since its formation, is currently clashing with the PMPF, a division led by an officer with close ties to President Said Abdullahi Deni. Tensions were further inflamed when a family member related to the PMPF’s director was reportedly abducted in Bosaso.

The security deadlock has sparked worries about its possible implications on the ongoing fight against al-Shabab.
