North Western State of Somalia’s Legislative Body Sanctions Appointment of 19 Ministers in New Administration
Hargeisa (AX) – A whirlwind of applause greeted North Western State of Somalia’s House of Representatives on Monday as they gave a remarkable thumbs-up to 19 of President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro’s new ministers. This unfolded during the lively ninth session of their 10th seating.
Making the cut among the key ministers was Ahmed Yasiin Sheikh Ali Ayaanle, snagging the role of Minister of Information with an impressive 65 votes. A closely watched figure, Abdirahman Dahir Aden, is now at the helm of Foreign Affairs with 59 votes, while Mohamed Yusuf Ali Ikacase took the reins at the Defense Ministry, garnering 62 votes.
Not to be overshadowed, Khadar Hussein Abdi made waves as the new Minister of the Presidency, raking in a solid 65 votes. Meanwhile, Hassan Ahmed Duale, affectionately known as Maclin, took on the role of Minister of Local Government and Urban Development with 64 votes. The Planning Ministry welcomes Kaltuun Sheikh Hassan Abdi Madar, who also secured 65 votes.
In a surge of unanimous support, three standout ministers were rubber-stamped; Ahmed Mohamed Farah Coofle (Youth and Sports), Jamaal Mohamed Jama (Communications and Technology), and Osman Ibrahim (Af-grab), Minister of Transport, each amassed a whopping 65 votes.
A flurry of nods also went to the Minister of Investment, Said Mohamed Buraale with 63 votes, while the Environment Minister, Abdullahi Osman Jama, rounded up a neat 64 votes. Finance was entrusted to Abdilaahi Hassan Adan Awaale, who took home 65 votes. Commerce duties landed on Abdirahman Hassan Nuux Furre’s capable shoulders as he also raked in 65 votes. The Minister of Religion spot went to Abdilaahi Dahir Jama with the same support, while Hussein Ahmed Aydiid secured his place as the Minister of Public Works with 63 votes. Abdale Mohamed Arab also joined the ranks with 65 votes as the Minister of Security.
Education was left in capable hands with Ismail Yusuf Duale, while the Minister of Health Development, Dr. Hussein Bashir Hirsi, and the Minister of Social Affairs and Family, Mr. Milgo Mohamed Elmi, also drew in all 65 votes.
This vigorous approval follows President Irro dropping the news on December 14 about his ambitiously staffed cabinet: 48 members strong, including 28 ministers, 16 deputy ministers, and four state ministers. Surprisingly, only 19 names were tossed into the parliamentary approval arena, leaving many scratching their heads as no whispers of why filtered down.
Elected in November 2024, once an opposition figurehead, President Irro now stands as North Western State of Somalia’s sixth president, succeeding Muse Bihi Abdi. This historic changeover adds more fuel to the already fiery political scene in North Western State of Somalia, as people eagerly watch how these new leaders will steer the ship.
