Imagine an eclectic mix of bright sparks from Agriculture to Computer Science, and Sales to Law & Sharia—they’ve all strutted across the stage with diplomas from top dogs like SIMAD and Somali National University in hand. And guess who foot the bill? Yep, the magical money tree known as Hormuud Salaam Foundation after a nail-biting selection round in 2020.
Abdullahi Nur Osman, the big cheese over at Hormuud Salaam Foundation, kicked off the shindig. He sang praises of education’s superpower potential, crowing, “Education is the cornerstone of progress,” while patting both graduates and the foundation on the back for a job well done. “We’re waving goodbye to our graduates, and rolling out the welcome mat for the new kids,” Osman quipped. “We’ve got our eyes on fields that’ll throw Somalia into turbo mode!”
Then Dr. Mohamed Hassan Bideey, at the helm of the Somali Universities Association, took the mic, waxing lyrical about how initiatives like these are the building blocks of a new Somalia.
