Hirshabelle State Denounces Beledweyne Town Clashes, Pledges Commitment to Upholding Law and Order
Beledweyne (AX) – On Friday, officials from the Hiiraan region of the Hirshabelle administration voiced strong disapproval of the violent altercation in Beledweyne. This clash, involving forces from both the Hiiraan State and Hirshabelle State administrations, tragically resulted in a civilian’s death and further unsettled the already fragile stability.
In their official response, the administration pledged to implement essential actions to uphold law and order, ensuring the safety of locals.
“The leadership of the Hiiraan region is unwavering in its dedication to upholding security and legal standards. It’s beyond the pale for disturbances to brew in Beledweyne, as such moves could potentially attract hostile entities,” declared the statement.
The authorities underscored that those who stir unrest will bear full accountability for any breaches of peace, stressing a zero-tolerance stance against threats to public safety.
This conflict broke out at the Lamagalay camp, the main base of the Hiiraan region. Sources suggest Hirshabelle forces tried to thwart the anniversary festivities planned by Hiiraan State, set for Saturday, as conveyed by Hiiraan representatives.
Since June 2023, tensions have simmered after Hiiraan Governor Ali Jeyte Osman proclaimed autonomy from Hirshabelle State. This declaration followed his removal by Hirshabelle State President Ali Abdullahi Hussein.
