Ethiopian Airlines Halts Flights to Nairobi Amid Unrest

Nairobi, Kenya – Ethiopian Airlines, renowned as one of Africa’s most reliable national carriers, declared a disruption of flights to Nairobi, Kenya’s bustling capital. This upheaval was spurred by a rift between aviation laborers and Kenya’s government.

On Wednesday, employees at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi—the largest hub in East Africa—halted work. Their protest was in response to a governmental agreement aimed at expanding the facility.

Ethiopian Airlines issued an apology to its passengers for the inconvenience triggered by these flight disruptions, which have wreaked havoc on the Kenyan capital’s airport operations. As a result, countless passengers experienced upheaval in their travel plans.

“We’re actively observing the situation and striving to minimize its effects on our travelers,” Ethiopian Airlines assured.

Many airlines are now advising passengers to stay updated as the strike continues to cause chaos in flight schedules. As a repercussion, flight plans to Kenya were altered, directing aircraft to alternative nations amid the turmoil.

Hundreds of workers at Kenya’s primary international airport protested against a proposed pact between the Kenyan government and India’s Adani Group. Officials stated that the demonstration led to planes being grounded and left hundreds of passengers stranded.

The Kenyan administration declared the agreement with Adani Group would pave the way for the modernization of JKIA, including the construction of a brand-new runway and terminal. In exchange, Adani Group would manage the airport for three decades.

However, the Kenya Airport Workers Union, which orchestrated the strike, cautioned that the deal might lead to job cuts and “worse work conditions” for the remaining staff, according to the Associated Press.
