Air France Halts Red Sea Flights Following Missile Attack by Houthis
NAIROBI, KENYA (AXADLE) – Air France Temporarily Halts Flights Above Red Sea; “Luminous Object” Sighting Sparks Alarm
A pivotal decision has been made by Air France to halt its flights across the Red Sea. This interruption stems from reports by the crew who spotted an unusual “luminous object soaring” in the skies near Sudan.
The curious event involved Flight 934, a Boeing 777-200ER, which embarked on a journey from Paris to Madagascar. But on Sunday, it was forced into an emergency landing due to what was described as a “technical glitch.” This flight, which took off from Charles de Gaulle Airport at 10:44 a.m., ended up reversing course and returning to Paris about seven hours later.
Among the passengers was Madagascan political figure Siteny Randrianasoloniaiko, who shared the experience on social media. He confirmed, stating, “The buzz about our flight being correct—I was on that flight! A missile breezed by a plane just ahead of us, though no attack occurred. That’s why we turned back to Europe. Today, there was a missile over Sudan!”
Communicating on X (formerly known as Twitter), Air France declared: “Out of an abundance of caution, Air France has chosen to momentarily halt flights over the Red Sea area. Some flight routes have been recalibrated. Based on location, certain planes might have pivoted mid-course and safely returned, as did flight AF934 from Paris heading to Antananarivo.”
The airline underscored, “This action stems from a crew’s potential sighting of a bright object at great heights in Sudan’s airspace. Air France consistently prioritizes the safety and welfare of its patrons and crew members above all else.”
In addition, Air France conveyed that it keeps a vigilant eye on the geopolitical happenings in the areas it serves, ensuring the highest levels of safety and security.
