Somali Aviation Authority Dismisses Aircraft Crash Allegations as Unfounded Rumors
Mogadishu (AX) — Reports buzzing on social media about a supposed crash involving government aircraft were dismissed by the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), dismissing them as sheer fabrications. The SCAA firmly stated that none of the newly acquired planes have faced such mishaps, rubbishing claims of them hitting the ground in off-limit locales.
Releasing a detailed statement on Tuesday, the SCAA labeled these stories as part of a concerted effort to spread falsehoods by what they termed “Somalia’s antagonists.” As the guardian of the nation’s aviation realm, the authority assured that all helicopters and airplanes brought on board over the previous couple of years were flying with absolute safety assurance.
According to the SCAA, “Any talk of government aircraft crashing or making emergency landings off the beaten path is nothing but utter hogwash.” The organization insisted that the public seek confirmation of any flight-based information solely from official channels.
The spokesperson for SCAA conveyed, “These rumors aim to baffle and mislead everyone. We advise folks to trust only authentic sources when it comes to governmental news.”
In stronger terms, an SCAA representative refuted the online allegations as wholly unfounded. “All our aircraft are in shipshape condition, executing their designated roles for the nation,” they remarked. The statement further asserted that aviation equipment is routinely checked and complies with all rigorous safety standards.
This denial surfaced as Somalia steps up its military prowess, highlighted by the recent acquisition of four Bell 412EPX helicopters from Italy, a deal pegged at $16 million. These choppers signify a pivotal turnover in military supplies since the previous arms embargo—that once tied Somalia’s hands—was lifted, enabling the procurement of cutting-edge military gear.
The SCAA made it clear again that the newly obtained helicopters and planes are “performing their roles in national service safely and effectively.”
