Santoméens voted yesterday, Sunday 18 July, to elect its new president from 19 candidates. When asked about their expectations, many voters say they expect the future president to be able to unite the nation and work with the prime minister to move the country forward.

At the age of 31, Romilson Silveira is a very active young person in the santomic community. Lawyer and president of the Pan-African Youth Network for the Culture of Peace, he believes the next head of state must work with the prime minister to find entrepreneurs who will come to invest in São Tomé and Príncipe: we need “a president who is more active, who could really provide political stability, and also, could support the government in finding investors to come to the country ”.

A hope shared by LaraSousa Dias, a young student in international relations, who believes that the new president of the republic must be a leader who can unite the nation: “May he be a leader to drive the country forward. He must be a friend to the people, he must make good decisions. I hope that this election goes well and that in five years we will not be affected yet “.

According to the spokesman for the National Electoral Commission, Victor Correia, the overall results of the presidential election will be known on Monday.
