QC Excavates Two Artesian Wells in Central Somalia to Ensure Access to Safe Water
Qatar Charity (QC) has successfully drilled two artesian wells in the bustling villages of Kalyak and Oshoti, nestled in the Warshiekh region of central Somalia. This significant development stands to benefit nearly 10,000 local residents who have grappled with immense challenges in accessing clean water.

Prior to the inauguration of these wells, the community in Kalyak trudged 10 kilometers to gather water, while Oshoti’s residents journeyed 7 kilometers. These arduous treks not only disrupted daily routines but also heightened health risks linked to unreliable water sources.
During the well-opening celebration, Saleh Mohammed Hassan, the Minister of Water and Energy in Hirshabelle State, commended QC’s timely intervention. He remarked, “This project addresses an urgent need and will transform lives in this parched region.” He noted that the wells would not only enhance daily living but also support agriculture and livestock, vital for the local economy.
Abdul Fattah Adam, the director of QC’s office in Somalia, underscored the organization’s unwavering commitment to water and sanitation initiatives. He pointed out, “This project is a testament to our dedication to improving living conditions across Somalia.”
In 2023 alone, QC executed around 327 water and sanitation projects throughout Somalia, making a significant impact on roughly 285,000 individuals in need.
