Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) said on Sunday that an oil spill north of the country had been brought under control.

In a statement published on its Facebook page, NOC said that the leak occurred in one of the supply lines in the Dahra oil field.
“Technical teams were able to complete the work and stop the leak,” the statement said, while the cause of the leak was not disclosed.
According to the oil group, the leak did not affect production operations.
The Dahra oil field is one of the oldest oil fields in the country and was discovered in the late 1950s with an average daily production of 120,000 barrels.
The Libyan economy suffered huge losses and continues to do so due to the oil blockades, which the statement described as “illegal” and which will affect the state budget 2020-2021 and wage payments to a large extent.
Oil production has fallen by about three quarters since forces loyal to Haftar launched a blockade. The blockade has also reduced revenues for government institutions operating across the country.
When the warring parties reached an agreement on issuing a weapons permit and initiating a peace process under a unity government in recent months, the blockade has also been lifted.
As early as October 2020, NOC said in a statement on Facebook that it explained “the end of the blockades in all Libyan fields and ports from today.”
“Instructions have been given to the operator, Mellitah Oil & Gas BV, to resume production in the al-Feel oil field and the gradual return of Mellitah crude oil to its normal level in the next few days,” it added.
