These comments came during a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, indicating a diplomatic shift in the dialogue surrounding Ukraine.
Interestingly, Mr. Trump has long been an outspoken critic of the extensive military and financial support the United States has allocated to Ukraine. However, ahead of this critical meeting—which is expected to include the signing of a deal pertaining to mining rights—he adopted a noticeably different tone. “We’ve given him a lot of equipment and a lot of money, but they have fought very bravely,” Mr. Trump acknowledged. “Somebody has to use that equipment, and they certainly have shown commendable bravery.”

However, when it came to U.S. security guarantees—a crucial demand from Britain and France in exchange for deploying peacekeepers to Ukraine during any potential deal with Russia—Mr. Trump remained evasive. He mentioned that he was “open to many things” when it came to security options, but insisted that a successful Russia-Ukraine deal had to be prioritized first.
