On Thursday morning, intense downpours struck the city of San Antonio, resulting in flash flooding that pushed vehicles off the roads and into a nearby creek bed, as noted by local broadcaster KENS5.

According to the station, the San Antonio Fire Department is actively searching for at least four additional individuals who are missing.

By yesterday afternoon, city officials confirmed that the death toll had risen to ten.

“I want to personally thank our San Antonio first responders and their families for their sacrifices toward the recovery efforts,” expressed a city official, highlighting the dedication and bravery of those involved.

City officials reported that first responders had successfully conducted over 70 water rescues and 16 high-water investigations as they navigated the challenges posed by the flooding.

As scientists have cautioned for years, climate change—primarily driven by human-made fossil fuel emissions—continues to heighten the frequency, intensity, and duration of extreme weather events, including these torrential rains.

In the face of such devastating circumstances, the resilience and commitment of our community shines through. As we recover, it’s crucial to remember the interconnectedness of our environment and the impact of our actions.
