Harrison Ford calls lifetime acting achievement award a profound honor
Harrison Ford will receive the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award at the rebranded Actor Awards in March, honoring a career that has delivered some of cinema’s most enduring characters from Han Solo to Indiana Jones. The 32nd annual ceremony, formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards, will stream live on Netflix on March 1.
The union’s highest honor is presented annually to a performer who embodies the “finest ideals of the acting profession,” SAG-AFTRA said in announcing the lifetime achievement award for Ford.

“Harrison Ford is a singular presence in American life; an actor whose iconic characters have shaped world culture,” SAG-AFTRA President Sean Astin said.
Ford said he was “deeply honoured” by the recognition. “To be acknowledged by my fellow actors means a great deal to me,” he said. “I’ve spent most of my life on film sets, working alongside incredible actors and crews, and I’ve always felt grateful to be part of this community.”
The Actor Awards rebrand reflects a refreshed identity for the long-running ceremony while maintaining its core mission of celebrating ensemble and individual performances. The 2025 edition will continue to spotlight film and television achievements while introducing Ford as the latest recipient of a prize whose roster reads like a cross-section of Hollywood history.
Ford’s path to screen legend was unlikely. Before his breakthrough, he worked as a carpenter, landing a small but scene-stealing role as Bob Falfa in George Lucas’ 1973 film American Graffiti. He soon cemented his place in popular culture as Han Solo in Star Wars and as archaeologist-adventurer Indiana Jones, roles that spanned decades and defined blockbuster filmmaking.
He also earned acclaim in more brooding, genre-defining work as Rick Deckard, the replicant-hunting detective at the center of 1982’s Blade Runner—a part he revisited 35 years later in Blade Runner 2049. That range, from swashbuckling hero to haunted noir lead, shaped Ford’s reputation as a durable, era-defining star.
In recent years, Ford has carried that presence to television, co-starring with Oscar winner Helen Mirren in the Western drama 1923 and appearing in the comedy-drama Shrinking, underscoring his continued relevance across platforms and generations.
Past recipients of the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award include Robert De Niro, Jane Fonda, Morgan Freeman and Elizabeth Taylor, a group that situates Ford among performers whose work transcends decades and genres.
The Actor Awards will be streamed live globally on Netflix on March 1, expanding the show’s reach as awards season continues to adapt to changing viewing habits.
