Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Robert F. Kennedy, passes away at 96 years old.
Ethel Kennedy, the devoted widow of the late Robert F. Kennedy, a notable U.S. politician whose life was tragically cut short, has passed away at the age of 96, according to her family’s statement.
“With heavy hearts brimming with love, we share the news of our remarkable grandmother’s passing,” Former Congressman Joe Kennedy III expressed on social platforms, capturing the family’s profound sense of loss.
Ethel’s death, which resulted from complications related to a stroke, signifies not just the loss of a family matriarch but a prominent figure within a lineage that included the illustrious former President John F. Kennedy—who also faced assassination—and Senator Ted Kennedy.
She gave birth to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a controversial figure known for his views on vaccines, whose ill-fated attempt to launch a third-party presidential campaign and endorsement of Donald Trump have stirred conversations about the Kennedy family’s standing in the realms of American politics and the Democratic Party.
Robert F. Kennedy, affectionately referred to as Bobby or RFK, held the prestigious role of U.S. Attorney General in his brother John’s administration, serving diligently from 1961 until 1964. Afterward, he ascended to the U.S. Senate as a representative for New York.
In a heartbreaking turn, only five years after the tragic assassination of JFK, Robert Kennedy was fatally shot while campaigning for the presidency in 1968.
Remarkably, just six months following his untimely demise, Ethel welcomed their 11th child into the world, showcasing her resilience even in the most challenging moments.
She later established the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization, an influential advocacy group renowned for championing freedom of expression and human rights on a global scale.
In 2014, Ethel received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from then-President Barack Obama, an honor that recognized her lifelong commitment to social justice and human rights.
Reflecting on her legacy, Joe Kennedy III emphasized, “We take solace in knowing she’s reunited with the love of her life, our father, Robert F. Kennedy, celebrating their bond once more.”
Ethel Kennedy’s enduring legacy is upheld by nine children, a remarkable 34 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren, as noted by Joe Kennedy III, preserving the rich history and values instilled in the family for generations to come.
This passing marks a poignant chapter in the Kennedy saga, continuing a family narrative deeply woven into the fabric of American history. Ethel’s life was a tapestry of joys, sorrows, and steadfast advocacy, setting an indelible example of courage and conviction.
Through her advocacy and unwavering moral compass, Ethel helped illuminate pathways for social justice, encouraging countless individuals to stand up for what is right. “The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall,” a sentiment echoed in the actions of her life.
While her departure leaves a palpable void in the hearts of her loved ones, Ethel Kennedy has undeniably etched her mark on the world, reminding us all of the power of resilience and love in the face of life’s adversities.
