Attorney Advocates for Erik Menendez’s Release Due to Health Concerns
Erik Menendez, one of the brothers serving a life sentence for the tragic murder of their parents, has been transported to a hospital due to a “serious medical condition.”

His attorney, Mark Geragos, is actively pursuing Erik’s release from prison, highlighting the urgency of his health situation. “We believe that in light of his condition, a furlough is not just warranted, but necessary,” Geragos stated.
Erik, now 57, is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole alongside his brother, Lyle Menendez, 54. The brothers were convicted for the heinous act that took place in Beverly Hills, California, in 1989. Recently, a judge resentenced them to 50 years to life, which has made them eligible for parole.
The Menendez brothers are scheduled to appear before the state’s parole board next month, an event that has garnered significant attention.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has confirmed that Erik Menendez was admitted to an outside medical facility and is currently reported to be “in fair condition.” Geragos emphasized, “Prison should not be a place where health deteriorates; we must consider humane alternatives.”
During the Covid-19 pandemic, certain inmates were granted prison furloughs, and Geragos argues that similar measures are warranted in Erik’s case, given the circumstances.
As we await the upcoming parole board hearing, Erik’s health and future remain a pressing concern for his family and supporters.
