After a lukewarm start, the visitors thought they had dropped their nose forward when Paul Pogba slipped through Cavani, which ended coolly. However, after a VAR review, the goal of a Scott McTominay foul in the build-up was ruled out.

Spurs took full advantage of this subsequent minute later when Lucas Moura took advantage of Victor Lindelof’s mistake to put one on a plate for Son to knock home.
After the break, United leveled when a nice draw was completed by Fred in the return, after Cavani’s shot was saved. The game came to life after this with the red devils who created a flood of chance.
Eventually, their pressure paid off with Cavani finally taking a goal and going home Greenwood’s cross on the back post with 10 minutes of play. In the final stages, Greenwood then drove home from close range himself to make it 3-1.
Here are your players from Spurs and United from north London …

Hugo Lloris (GK) – 6/10 – Made a series of great saves after the break. A one-handed stop from the Fernandes strike was the highlight. But still admitted three.
Serge Aurier (RB) – 5/10 – Drove his team forward persistently at times. Defended stoically, until he lost Cavani for the goal.
Eric Dier (CB) – 6/10 – A flawless display. He played the ball far into Lo Celso effectively.
Joe Rodon (CB) – 6/10 – Not tested too often but he handled United’s runs behind him nicely.
Sergio Reguilon (LB) – 4/10 – A quiet afternoon. He supported the attack at times but barely affected the game. Skinned by Greenwood for the final goal.

Tanguy Ndombele (CM) – 6/10 – Showed his talent with some tricky runs through midfield. Was almost flawless in possession.
Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg (CM) – 6/10 – Offered good resistance in midfield. Part of his passing was a bit loose.
Giovani Lo Celso (AM) – 7/10 – A well-rounded screen. He completed some attractive round trips and also did himself and made three tackles during the first half alone.

Lucas Moura (RW) – 7/10 – Showed fine vision to create Son goal. Drove down a lot of dead ends afterwards.
Harry Kane (ST) – 6/10 – Worked hard, ran the channels and completed a lot of tackles. Forced a decent save from Henderson in the first half.
Son Heung-min (LW) – 8/10 – Heavily involved in the first half, tumbled to the ground after McTominay’s homemaker before opening the score with a calm finish. His side’s most creative player all the time.
Moussa Sissoko – 5/10 – Added very little after coming on.
Gareth Bale – 6/10 – An eventful ten minute cameo.
Erik Lamela – Not applicable

Dean Henderson (GK) – 7/10 – Moped up Spurs long balls well. Gets little chance for Spurs goal.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RB) – 6/10 – Questions can be asked of him for Son’s goal, but Rashford should have given him some defensive support. Steady other than that.
Victor Lindelof (CB) – 6/10 – Fluffed his approval in the build to Son’s opener. Restored okay.
Harry Maguire (CB) – 7/10 – Skilled. He dominated the air and read the game skillfully. Be naive to foul Kane in the second half and get a yellow card in the process.
Luke Shaw (LB) – 7/10 – A safe performance both defensively and forward. Still bang in shape.

Scott McTominay (CM) – 6/10 – Very unlucky to be punished by VAR. He covered after each blade of grass after that and showed his passage area.
Fred (CM) – 7/10 – Showed a surprising poachers instinct to take a rare goal shortly after the break. Broke up the piece effectively all the time.
Bruno Fernandes (AM) – 7/10 – Quiet for long spells but burst into life for United’s second goal and released Greenwood with a nice nutmeg.

Marcus Rashford (RW) – 5/10 – Not his day. He kept trying to make things happen but was not allowed to rub the green. Much more efficient from the left flank.
Edinson Cavani (ST) – 8/10 – Extremely unlucky to have his early goal ruled out. His movement in the box was always sharp and he was finally rewarded in the second half.
Paul Pogba (LW) – 7/10 – Timed his pass perfectly in the build-up to the illicit goal. Tried to be spotty when he probably could have scored in the second half. His driving and assist for the third goal compensated for that, though.

Mason Greenwood – 9/10 – Helped the winner just seven minutes after coming in and then took a goal himself. Flames.
